A total solution for copyright protection
DRM (Digital Right Management) provides safe & controlled transmission of digital content across platforms from content provider to client. DRM technology employs sophisticated encryption mechanism that is based on clients' password or unique ID of hardware. It can control user's access to all digitally existing data including multimedia data such as audio, image, and video files, digital documents as well as other various databases.
ContentSAFER provides much stronger degree of security in copyright protection, because of dual modes of protection in a single system: encryption and watermarks. Encryption with access control information is a core part of DRM, preventing illegal copy and distribution of the content in a network environment. Because the content is encrypted with access information, even if it is copied on CD or USB and delivered to the third party, it cannot be decrypted for use. Sometimes this encryption mechanism is called ¡®front-end DRM'. To the contrary, watermarking technology is called ¡®back-end DRM', because it makes post-authentication possible. Watermark technology embeds copyright information or purchaser's ID into digital content to demonstrate that distributed contents belong to claimed copyright owner or that the illegally distributed content was purchased by the ID owner. Because main purpose of watermark technology is to show copyright ownership or to identify illegal distributor after the content is delivered to clients, it is called ¡®Back-end DRM.'

Markany provides, depending on customer's business policy and strategy, three different DRM solutions: ContentSAFER (MarkAny DRM), MediaSAFER(MS DRM), and MobileSAFER(PMA DRM).
ContentSAFER was developed by MarkAny with its own encryption engine and license systems. MediaSAFER employs MS DRM engine. However, other components are developed by MarkAny engineers: license management module, content key management module, content packaging module, billing systems, transaction authentication module, and watermarking module. In developing MobileSAFER (OMA DRM), MarkAny faithfully follows standard architecture and instructions specified by OMA committee.
The most important advantages of MarkAny DRM solution, whether it is ContentSAFER, MediaSAFER, or MobileSAFER, are (1) provide a total solution to service providers, (2) provides a faultless interface with existing service systems, and (3) provides hardware solution for end user's devices.
MarkAny's solution is a total solution in that it provides perfect means to prevent illegal use of the content and at the same provides means to authenicate copyright ownership or trace illegal use. It consists of two parts: encryption with access control, and watermark module. Encryption with access control is a core part of content DRM system to prevent illegal copy and distribution of digital content. Because digital content is encrypted with a key, even if it is copied and sent illegally to third party, it cannot be properly decrypted to use. A best example of this encryption is found in downloaded file in iPOD. Currently, iPOD does not allow user to upload the file to other systems, or to transfer the file to third party. Even if you find ways to upload the file, you cannot peroperly open it to use on your device. Encryption with licenses in content DRM plays a role of ¡®gate keeper' which blocks illegal use of the file. On the contrary, watermark technology is employed to embed copyright owner's information into digital content to claim its ownership when it is found that someone illegally distributes the digital contents. Another use of watermarking technology, called fingerprinting, is to trace illegal user who illegally copies and distibute the content.
MarkAny's solution is a total solution in that it provides solutions from server to client, and even to portable devices. Currently, most DRM solution provides security mechanisms applicable to wired network environment only, from server to client's desktop computer or notebook computer. Otherwise, content DRM provides solution to portable devices such as iPOD. MarkAny solution includes server-side module, client-side module, embedding software to control end-user's portable device, or mobile phone.
MarkAny provides also solution for set-top-box.
MarkAny solution provides seamless and faultless interface with existing service systems. In many cases, DRM solution is constructed separately from existing service systems in order to strengthen seamless operation.
